Sea Baptisms, Lateen sailing and helicopter rescue simulations dynamize the second edition of Escala a Castelló

Escala a Castelló offers the opportunity to admire historical ships live, but it also goes beyond the contemplative. For five days, the event involves the participants, invites them to be part of the sea and its customs. Thus, the Grau de Castelló immerses visitors in music, gastronomy and sport to soak them in maritime tradition. An example of the latter are the sports and leisure activities organized by the Yacht Club between 25 and 29 April.

At the same time with the 250 activities that will feature the second edition of Escala a Castelló, organized by the city of Castelló, the Club Náutico will propose a quite varied program.  It contains suggestions such as sailing sea baptisms and canoeing. An opportunity to get started and delve into both disciplines by learning, for example, how to ride, arrive, flounder and balance the boat in the case of sailing.

As for canoeing, the participants will discover in detail all the parts of the boat to familiarize themselves with it. The sea baptisms will take place from Friday to Monday between 11 and 14 h, in addition to between 15: 30 and 19 h.

The most active ones will be able to participate in a gymkhana and master making marine knots with a workshop focused on this key aspect for the boats. Both activities will accept a maximum of 20 registrations, and they are scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 15: 30 to 19 h.

The Yacht Club will also host various shows for the enjoyment of spectators. Among them is the exhibition of sailing with lateen sails on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during several moments of the day: from 12 to 12:30 h, from 13:30 to 14:00, from 16:30 to 17 h and from 18:30 to 19:00 h. Another of the water sport that will have a place in Castelló will be polo kayak, with exhibition games on Saturday from 11am to 2pm.

The rescue drill with the Helimer 201 rescue helicopter promises to be very spectacular and it will be held on Saturday from 11 to 12 h. The aircraft may be visited at the Yacht Club half an hour later and from 12 to 14 h. The same thing will happen with the boats of the pontoon, whose visit is scheduled between Friday and Sunday, from 11 to 14 h and from 15:30 to 19 h.

Escala a Castelló is an event organized by the municipality of Castelló through the Municipal Board of Tourism and with the collaboration of the Valencian Agency of Tourism and PortCastelló. The first edition was a real success among the castellonians and received the visit of more than 75,000 people.

One of the objectives of this event and all the related activities is to value maritime heritage and marine traditions, so the Spanish National Commission also sponsors it for UNESCO. The Nautical Club of Castelló, the Maritime Museum of Barcelona and Renfe have also made possible the holding of this great sea festival, as well as the company BP.
