Lunch culture in the Valencian Community is a very important custom of all kinds of society, for many, more important than paella. Lunch or “esmorzaret” is not just a meal that is made in the morning. It is an occasion to meet at work break. L'esmorzaret is a daily rite for many, and for others a weekly rite to meet friends to chat, play paddle tennis, go cycling, make a biker route or any valid excuse for lunch. Although for many Spaniards it is a light meal in the Valencian Community it is a sacred custom.
A typical lunch in Valencia ('esmorzaret' in Valencian) begins with some dishes of olives and cocoas, also lupines ('altramusos') and usually includes a sandwich of potato omelette, squid, loin with cheese ... this goes to taste; or a pair of caps; a drink, also to taste; and ends with a coffee with milk, cut or carajillo.
