Algemesí dresses up and goes out to honor its patroness. The walls of the Festivity Museum remain small, and the town itself becomes a living museum, where every neighbor is part of its history and tradition. A fervent festivity in which everyone wants to participate actively.
Algemesí is a town marked by the celebration, every 7 and 8 September, of one of the most deeply rooted and important festivities for Valencians: the Procession of 'Our Lady of Health'. The devotion to a Marian image, found according to the legend back there in 1247 in the trunk of a mulberry, has become a reference on which is based a procession of unique dances and music. Tradition, faith and culture parade through the streets: these are the Festivity of 'Our Lady of Health'.
Every September 7th and 8th the processions of 'La Mare de Déu' fill the streets with colored trails that are recreated in the whimsical movements of the 'Muixeranga', the 'Bastonets', the' Carxofa ', the' Arquets', the ' Pastoretes', the 'Bolero' and the 'Tornejants'. The melody of the 'dolçaina' and 'tabalet' resound.
The first sounds that announce the imminent beginning of the festivities, arrive on September 6, is the “Nit del Retorn”. The bells of the basilica of 'Sant Jaume' play nonstop throughout the night. It is a unique rite in which the miraculous return of the image is remembered.
