Sant Mateu Medieval Market

The village of Sant Mateu makes a trip to its splendorous medieval past with the celebration the second July weekend (from 7th til 9th) of Sant Mateu Medieval. The historical center of Sant Mateu is set back to the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and recall the times when the wool trade with Florence made Sant Mateu one of the most important villages of the Kingdom of Valencia. This is reflected in the spectacular monumental heritage that is preserved in the old town, declared a Cultural Interest, and in its capital label ‘Maestrat de Montesa‘.
The streets of the historic center are decorated with medieval decoration and are occupied by a medieval market with trades, period characters, strolls, music groups, street entertainment … Also, during these days local shops and different craftsmen offer their products.
The date of celebration coincides with that granted by King Jaume I to the Order of Hospital to be able to hold an annual fair in Sant Mateu (the first concession obtained in Castellón).
VI Edition of a medieval market that consolidates year after year, and on this occasion organizes ‘La Fragua de Vulcano’ company in a beautiful enclave and with much history as Sant Mateu. This market will have great attractions such as medieval tournament, night shows, medieval children sticks, attractions and games, falconry, themed exhibitions, medieval camp…
Come to visit this medieval market from Friday 7th of July til Sunday 9th, 2017.
