The Hogueras de Alicante, also known as ‘Les Fogueres de Sant Joan’, are held every year in the city of Alicante from 20 to 24 June. During those four days the city celebrates with intensity and joy its official celebration.
The main events that take place during the week are:
LA PLANTÀ: On June 20, in each district fogueril, a bonfire is mounted. La plantà of the monuments is extended throughout the day until well into the night.
ENTRY OF BANDS: In the traditional ‘Entry of Bands’ the commissions parade through the streets dressed in traditional costumes, along with bands from all over the province.
OFFERING OF FLOWERS: On June 21st and 22nd, the belleas and damas deliver their bouquets to the patron saint of Alicante, the Virgen del Remedio. It is the Offering of Flowers with oldest antiquity of Spain.
LA MASCLETÀ: From 19th to 24th, at 2:00 p.m. a mascletá is fired in the Plaza de Los Luceros. The whole city comes en masse to enjoy the great spectacle of gunpowder and sound.
FOLKLORIC PARADE: On June 23rd, the international folkloric parade takes place, where representatives of all the countries of the world dress their dances and typical costumes.
LA CREMÀ: At 12 o’clock on the night of June 24th, the Hogueras come to an end with the cremà of all the monuments. The city will burn in each of the districts.
FIREWORKS: From the 25th to the 29th of June, every night is held next to the beach of the Postiguet fireworks contest.
